Troy Navarro - Gold Seal Flight Instructor CFII MEI
About Troy
I am 47 years old and happily married to a great Canadian named Elizabeth. We live in Spring, north of Houston and close to the United Flight Systems school.
When I was younger, I learned to turn wrenches as a hobby, which landed me a couple of fun jobs at Dallas Motor Sport and later at a shop out in Burbank called Celebrity Machine. While investigating opportunities in the military I thought that working on and flying helicopters would be interesting. So, during my tour of duty in the United States Army I became a helicopter mechanic and learned to fly the OH58. After my honorable discharge from the military, I worked for the resort Club Med teaching waterskiing, which led me to establish a water ski school in Kauai, HI, on the Wailua River. This is where I learned to wakeboard and even competed professionally.
After doing some design and marketing work for a few small companies, I was asked to help promote Connelly waterskis and wakeboards, doing traveling teaching clinics and producing instructional videos. That led to the opportunity to manage a wakeboard camp in Smithville, TX.
After several years, I changed gears again, going to work for Continental Airlines as a flight attendant. With encouragement from Luke Solum, a good friend and a Continental pilot, I looked into flying again. Another friend/pilot, Rick Croasdale, who is in management at ExpressJet, highly recommended
United Flight Systems in Houston, Texas where I completed my flight training.
Now, with the support and attention to detail that I have received from United Flight Systems, I find myself both flying and teaching for them.
I look forward to meeting and talking with you about how we can help with your aviation needs. Whether you just want to go for a joy ride, see your house or property from the air, visit friends or get your own pilot's license, I look forward to working with you.
2010 Update
It has been a great year. I have had the good fortune to work with many great students from all walks of life. Some were taking discovery flights, some were students who wanted to change careers, while others were pilots who wanted to further their skills. Myself and the rest of the instructors at United Flight School have seen a lot of great students this last year, and a lot of interest in training with the G1000-glass. The school is even slated to get two of the new Cessna Skycatchers, both of which have the glass instrumentation. Whether you want to go sightseeing or work on your private pilot’s certification, learn to fly the G1000 glass, or get your CFII and learn to fly a multi-engine aircraft, I look forward to flying with you soon.
